Another key element in contributing to the effectivity of a wind turbine is the pitch drive. At the root of each rotor blade the pitch drives put the rotor blades into the correct position. This serves to fully exploit the available wind force. Due to the limited space around the rotor root, these drives have to be of compact design.
The planetary gear design particularly meets this requirement. Depending on the given nacelle space, the drive can additionally be equipped with a bevel gear stage. As pitch gears turn around with the rotor, they have to meet specific requirements with regard to sealing and lubrication.
